Google’s core ad products, AdSense and AdWords, now understand Bengali. The search giant has just announced support for the sixth-most spoken language in the world as part of its commitment towards local language advertisers and content creators. These publishers can now reach a large audience globally and target them with Bengali-language search as well as display ads. Bengali becomes the second Indian language after Hindi to get support in AdSense and AdWords.
With this, even individual content creators who run websites or blogs in Bengali can monetize their offerings and attract advertisers from all across, Google announced. “With the availability of Hindi, and today’s launch of Bengali language capabilities, we are working hard to ensure that digital advertising is keeping up with the needs of an evolving Internet audience. Over the coming months, we will share more about our efforts to further build on this,” Shalini Girish, Director – Google Marketing Solutions, Google India, stated.
Users can follow three simple steps to create an AdSense account. First, they have to make their website/blog compliant with AdSense program policies. Then, they have to sign up for an AdSense account. And finally, they need to add the AdSense code on their site/page to start displaying ads relevant to their audience. Google AdSense typically takes a week or two to verify an application. It then notifies users via email if their application has been accepted or rejected. In its T&C, Google makes it clear that a website has to remain live for at least six months for it to have an AdSense account.
Multiple technology blogs and websites are among top AdSense earners in India. They make anything between $15,000 to $30,ooo a month. But a majority of them are in English. Vernacular publishers are gaining traction only now. Google revealed that the “the interest for Bengali language content has been growing steadily over the last few years.” AdSense thus benefits both publishers and advertisers and connects them “with the growing online Bengali audience to reach them with relevant ads.”
